This is absolutraia's travel journal. Keep exploring Indonesia & beyond. Post in Bahasa Indonesia & EnglishStay Silly and Be Happy. Let's pack & go!
It’s been a long time that many people told me to explore Flores. I never had a chance to do it. So this time when time and budget is chooses me, I go!
As usual i took my long time travel partner aka my daughter Raia. She needs to explore Indonesia as much as she travel the world. Indonesia i believe is the most exotic islands in the world. We are the only one an archipelago country.
The journey took around 6 days 5 nights include our stop over at Bali. The only airport to the island is Labuan Bajo from Bali and not many flights are flying there. This time we flew by Garuda Indonesia. It called Garuda Explorer.
and in an hour we arriving at Labuan Bajo Airport. Finally We touched East Indonesia!
Look how beautiful Komodo Islands Flores from the air:
I this journey we will spend the nights at LOB Live On Board Boat and hotels at the islands. Our experience live in LOB is also amazing! that you can read here.
Taka Makassar Island
This island is beautiful! small white pinky sandy island with no trees! only white pinky sand and the super beautiful clear turquoaise water. It’s superb!
We are spending our time snorkeling, beaching, taking pictures of even just sit and amaze of the beautiful scenery.
Video of Taka Makassar Island:
Gili Lawa Barat/Darat
I’ve been to many spots in the world but for sure this is one of the best spots in the world. From the beautiful landscape, sunrise, sunset, trekking and beach is so spectacular. Words can’t imagine, pictures can’t describe it. Call me lame but this is true. Nothing can beat the real lens of seeing your self with your eyes.
We are anchoring the boat here for a night and we do sunset treking to the top of the hills.
And in the morning starts at 4 AM we are boating under the dark skies with stars, we trekked to the other part of the hill to watch the sunrise. And this is going to be one of the best moment if my life. It’s not just the sunrise it self but the scenery landscape around it is so beautiful.
and if it’s still not enough…the path going down to the beach is also another blowing mind for me. The hills sclupture, sea, sky and the colour is a perfect mix of what Almighty’s create for us Indonesia.
our little piece of Gili Lawa journey can be found here:
The Pink Beach
Whenever i heard people come to Komodo Islands they must share about this lovely spot. So here I am witnessing another Flores’s beauty. It’s prooven. The pinky sandy beach againts the turqoise water with blue sky. Amazing.
Komodo National Park
Finally we are going to see the Dragon, the real Komodo. This world’s creature is only can be seen here. This national park is world’s conservation everything in it is protected. They keep everything in it natural so the habitat surviving naturally.
We guarded by the ranger and must obey the rules they briefed us. Because Komodo is a wild animal.
On our way to Kanawa Island where we plan to stay over night at the island, we experience a moment that maybe not many people experience it. A volcano eruption. Mount Sangheang is erupting on ur way to the island and giving us superb with anxious feeling.
this the video:
So we spend the night at the island with different view. Dark, greyish skies and also…the ashes.
There is only one accomodation at the island with very minimum electricity and fresh water supplies. So we do everything efficiently.
the sunset is also has different feelings with deep dark skies.
but the next day we still manage to enjoy Kanawa snorkeling spot. So beautiful and many baby sharks!
Rinca Island, Komodo
Rinca Island is also one of the good spot to view Komodo. The day we went to Rinca is full of ashes from the volcano but it’s another experience to have also and we manage to see the dragons from closer look.
is the major town of Komodo National Park. All the centre of activities and local is centered here. We are spending the nights here before heading back to Bali. Big hotels, Supermarkets, ATM, Restaurant are easy to find here.
Flores, you mark my heart and i will come back for more. It is one of the most beautiful spot in the world. East Indonesia is definetely a destinantion we must put in our bucket list.

When the first time my friend told me that we will live on board (LOB) Boat for 3 days, I’m so exciting! It’s going to be my first and will do it in one of the best spot in the world. Flores!
LOB Board in Flores usually start at Labuan Bajo. The only town near Komodo Islands.
It came in many size, standard and service. From the low cost basic to world class hotel.
Mine is the middle standard. Called KM Fadaelo & Budi Utama
This 6 rooms fleet is equipped with AC, Blanket, Pillows & Towel with shared 2 bathroom.
It has sun deck, kitchen and dining table or so called the common room.
With the guide and 3 crew the boat sails smoothly along the journey. So amazing!
We can enjoy the Flores Sea shore, blue sky and hills all the way.
They carry the lifeboat all along to bring us closer to the island.
This is one convenience way to enjoy the ocean. We can choose wherever we want, Snorkle and dive whenever wherever we want even sleep wherever we want. Off course with inputs from the guide.
This is my guide. Pak Mikael.
Our favourite spot is this long dining table like our common room. We talk, laugh, eat, discuss and laughing out loud here…like a big family.
They serves 3 times a day include meals and fruits. The crew cooked for us.
This Live On Board is one of the best experience I had to enjoy the ocean and highlight of this trip.
Will definitely go back for more.
